Treatment Team
Dr. Kesterson is a board-certified psychiatrist and founder of Inlight Psychiatry & Therapy. The choice to practice psychiatry and help others on their path to mental wellness has been shaped by people and experiences encountered throughout her life. She is no stranger to life adversity and its impact on mental health.
A few months before graduating from medical school, at the height of her training, she was diagnosed with a neurological illness that severely impaired her ability to function.
In the darkest moments of uncertainty if her dream of helping others would materialize, she leaned on resilience and an inner voice to not give up. After receiving proper treatment from a wonderful team of doctors, she began her specialty training in psychiatry with the goal of helping others who may be facing adversities of their own. Inspired by her journey, Dr. Kesterson established Inlight Psychiatry & Therapy to empower individuals in finding their inner strength amidst life’s challenges.
She completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and psychiatry residency at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She has experience seeing patients in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, acute inpatient units, intensive outpatient programs, the Veteran Affairs mental health clinics, in addition to subspecialty psychiatry clinics.
She also has extensive training in various psychotherapeutic modalities. Although she primarily focuses on medication management, she integrates therapeutic approaches from Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to support patients in overcoming their challenges.
Her warm, direct, and engaging style aims to empower patients through education about their diagnoses and treatment options, providing clear explanations for each choice. Employing a collaborative approach, she partners with patients to develop personalized treatment plans aligned with their goals, whether involving medication, therapy referrals, or a combination of both. Dr. Kesterson employs the latest psychopharmacological therapies available, prioritizing evidence-based medications with established safety profiles.
What you’ll find with Dr. Kesterson is a compassionate ally, attentive to your needs and fully committed to your mental wellness journey. With empathy and understanding, she fosters a safe space for open dialogue and collaborative decision-making. Dr. Kesterson not only provides support but also gently pushes patients forward, encouraging growth and progress.
